The 18U Shamrocks, now 22-1-1 this summer, outscored their opponents 38-4 while going a perfect 5-0 and capturing the ASA Gold National Qualifier Championship last weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana. University of Tennessee bound Christy Anch (Broad Run HS) picked up 4 of the 5 wins as she allowed no runs on two hits while striking out 26 in 16 innings of work. Pitching mate Brittany Detwiler (Souderton, PA) was also impressive as she worked 15 innings allowing only 3 earned runs on 9 hits while striking out 23 including 12 in the championship game. On offense, the Shamrocks batted .371 as a team led by East Carolina bound Christine Sheridan (Spalding HS) who went 8 for 11 (.727) with a double, triple and 9 RBI. Shortstop Courtney Bures (Stonewall Jackson HS) went 8 for 15 (.533) and scored a team high 9 runs while Christy Anch, Kelly Brown (Virginia Tech/Gar-Field HS) and Dani Woods (McDonough) all batted over .350. The Shamrocks, who have now won all 4 tournaments entered in the 2002 campaign, face another tough test this week as they head out to Boulder, CO on Wednesday for the highly competitive Independence Day Invitational tournament featuring most of the top teams in the country amongst the 81 team field. In one of the feature games on Friday night at the main Stazio Complex the Shamrocks will square off against the two time defending ASA 18U Gold National Champion Katy Cruisers out of Katy, TX. By winning the Gold National Qualifier in Indianapolis, the Shamrocks earned a berth to attend the granddaddy of them all the ASA 18U Gold National Championship Tournament to be held in Broken Arrow, OK from August 5th through August 11th.
