    Shamrocks Win Pennsbury Invitational

    by Al Anch

The Pennsbury Invitational softball tournament is one of the biggest annual invitational tournaments on the East Coast. This year's field included teams from virtually every state on the east coast as well as others from Ohio, Oregon, California and Canada to name a few - 80 teams in all. With the tournament completely rained out a year ago, the 18U Shamrocks entered the 2002 field as defending champions from the year 2000. And defend the championship they did! Led by the pitching of Christy Anch (Broad Run HS - University of Tennessee next fall) and Brittany Detwiler (Souderton, PA) and the hitting of Dani Woods (McDonough HS), the Shamrocks went undefeated in the tournament outscoring their opponents by 42-2. The 2002 Shamrocks have now won all 3 tournaments they have entered this summer and currently sport a very impressive 17-1-1 overall record. Next up for the Shamrocks is Indianapolis - the team will leave Thursday for a highly competitive ASA Gold Qualifier featuring 14 quality teams from various parts of the country - the top 2 finishers qualify for the ASA Gold National Tournament to be held in Broken Arrow, OK in mid August.
