SHAMROCKS AT THE DISNEY WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS

      The 16U Shamrocks tied for third place at the Independent Softball Association (ISA) World Tournament Qualifier held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports on January 23rd thru 25th in Orlando, Florida. This was their first competition of the year.

Saturday, January 24th

Game 1 vs. West Orange Sun Sox

      Began at 9:00 a.m. in early fog and ended with a 6-1 win. Defensively, pitcher Kat Peck (1-0) had 10 strike-outs, gave up 4 hits and one base on balls. The opponent's run was unearned. Offensively, Jenn Wynn and Rachael Smith delivered big time. Jenn went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI, including the eventual game winner. Rachael went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Game 2 vs. Orlando (FL) Flames

      Began at 3:00 p.m. an ending in a 4-3 win. Defensively, pitcher Dana Burgess (1-0) had 6 strike-outs, gave up 2 hits and 2 base on balls. The opponent’s 3 runs were earned. Offensively, the Shamrocks had 4 hits and no strikeouts. In the first inning, Kathleen Jones ripped a triple to (left field?), and scored on Jenn Wynn’s grounder to short. In the third inning, the Flames scored 3 runs with a walk, a single, a fielder’s choice ground ball, an infield error, and a double. In the fifth inning, the Shamrocks scored once on a single by Autumn Wacker, walks to Alexis Thurlow and Kelley Pastic, and an infield ground ball by Kat Peck to score Wacker from third base. Down by one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Shamrocks roared back when Alexis Thurlow reached first on a too-hot-to-handle grounder to third. Thurlow moved into scoring position by a perfect sacrifice bunt by Kelley Pastic. Kat Peck reached first on a fielder’s choice when the Flames tried to make a play on Thurlow moving to third base. Amy Scott then re-entered for Peck, and promptly moved to second base on the steal. With Thurlow now on third base and Scott now on second base, pitcher Dana Burgess took her game by calmly stroking a gap shot double to right center field, easily scoring Burgess and Scott for the win. This was a very exciting game, well played by both teams.

Game 3 vs. Clearwater (FL) Lady Bombers

      Began at 5:00 p.m. and ended in a 1-1 tie. For the defense, pitcher Kat Peck (1-0-1) nabbed 4 strikeouts and yielded one walk and an unearned run. Offensively, the Shamrocks had 5 hits with 9 strikeouts. The Shamrocks scored first in the third inning on a walk to Kat Peck and singles by Cindy Soto and Kathleen Jones. The Bombers came back in the 4th inning on an infield error, sacrifice bunt, and an RBI single. The game was exciting but frustrating, with both the Shamrocks and the Lady Bombers moving runners to scoring position late in the game, but unable to score.

Sunday, January 25th

Game 4 vs. Lakeland (FL) Diamondbacks

      Began at 11:00 a.m. The lead see-sawing excitingly before ending in an 8-5 loss to the Diamondbacks. Defensively, pitcher Dana Burgess (1-0) started and struck out 3 with no walks. However, the Diamondbacks combined 4 hits to score 2 earned and 1 unearned runs in the third inning. Kat Peck (1-1-1) entered in relief in the third inning with the Diamondbacks leading 3-0. Peck finished the game with 5 strikeouts, giving up 2 walks and 4 hits, and 2 earned runs. Five more unearned runs were scored. Down 3-0 in the second inning, the Shamrocks came back smoking in the bottom of the second inning after Rachael Smith reached first base on an error. Alexis Thurlow then singled, Kelley Pastic sacrificed to move runners to scoring position. Amy Scott then ripped a double to right center field which scored both runners, and moved on to third base on an error. Peck then bounced a grounder to second, which scored Scott. With two outs, Leigh Murray walked then stole second base. Kathleen Jones also walked. Murray and Jones moved to scoring positions on a passed ball. Jen Wynn singled, scoring Murray and Jones. Trailing 5-3, the Diamondbacks struck in the 6th inning for 2 earned and 3 unearned runs. With one out, the Diamondbacks then had a walk followed by a double. An infield error proved costly by tying the score. The next batter struck out, which should have been the end of the inning. With a runner on first, the next three batters combined a walk, a big two-out triple and a single to take the lead with 8 runs. While mounting serious threats every inning, the Shamrocks scoring stopped at 5 runs. Back to Top



Shamrocks Finish Third at AFA Round Robin 18U Tournament, May 30-31

Saturday May 30

Game 1 versus the Chesapeake Chargers:

      Top of First Inning: The Chargers' leadoff batter (#8) bunted for a hit and moved to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt (#10). She was tagged out at home while trying to score on a bunt by player #14, who reached 1st base safely on the play at home, and then stole 2nd base. The following batter (#23) walked, and on an error on a play to pick her off, the lead runner (#14) scored and #23 moved to 2nd. The next batter (#5) sliced a base hit which scored #23. The inning ended when she was tagged on a steal attempt.

      Bottom of First Inning: Kathleen Jones (#14) shot a single down the 3rd base line, and moved to 2nd base on a wild pitch. The next two batters, Jenn Wynn (#19) and Lauren Pollock (#11), walked, loading the bases for Annie Del'Aria (#8), who ripped a booming grand slam to left field. The score at the end of the first inning was 4-2, Shamrocks.

      Second Inning: With 2 out, #2 popped a single to shallow center field. The next two batters walked and singled, loading the bases. Chargers #10 hit a long double, driving in 3 runs, boosting the Charger score to 5.

      Leigh Murray (#1) bunted safely. With one out, Jenn Wynn (#19) doubled in a run, making the score after 2 full innings a tie at 5.

      With the score tied at 5 at the end of five full innings, the sixth inning was played according to international tie breaker rules. The Chargers scored a run on an error. The Shamrocks' Rachel Smith (#2) bunted in the tie run. The game ended in a 6-6 tie.

      Pitcher Kat Peck struck out 3 and walked 1.

Game 2 versus the Pittsburgh Gems.

      The Gems scored first in the top of the third inning. A line single to right field by #3, sacrifice bunt by #10, and slap to the left side put runners on 2nd and 3rd. An error on an infield single let in one run, and player #11 lined a single down the left field line, bringing in another run. The score at the end of 2 was 2-0, Gems.

      The Shamrocks tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the 4th inning on a double by Annie Del'Aria which drove in Jenn Wynn and Lauren Pollock, who reached on back to back singles.

      The Shamrocks left the bases full in the bottom of the 5th inning, but in the top of the 6th inning the Gems player #16 lined a single to left center field, bringing in a runner who reached 3rd base on a walk and sacrifice bunt. With the score 3-2 in favor of the Gems, the Shamrocks left runners at 2nd and 3rd , but failed to score. The Gems took the game 3-2.

      Pitcher Lauren Pollock struck out 5 and walked 2.

Game 3 versus the Marylanders

      The Shamrocks scored first in the 2nd inning. Annie Del'Aria stroked a long drive double to center field, and scored on a liner up the middle hit by Cindy Soto. The Marylanders filled the bases in the bottom of the 2nd on three singles . With one out, the Shamrocks turned a suicide bunt into a double play at home and 3rd.

      In the top of the 3rd, the Shamrocks loaded the bases on a walk by Amy Scott, a shot to shallow center field by Kathleen Jones, and an infield hit by Kat Peck. Lauren Pollock drove in a run on a line shot to the right side. Another run came in on a pass ball to Annie Del'Aria, who walked. An infield hit to the right side by Autumn Wacker and a double to center field by Cindy Soto drove in two more runs, bringing the score to 6-0. The Marylanders came back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd on an error, a double to left field by player #31, and a single to left field by player #13.

      The Marylanders threatened again in the bottom of the 4th. An infield error, walk, and sacrifice infield hit moved runners to 2nd and 3rd. A shot to shallow center field by player #1 drove in a run and left runners on 1st and 3rd. The Shamrocks made a double play on the attempted steal for 2nd base and home.

      The game ended after 5 innings, with the score Shamrocks 6, Marylanders 3.

Game 4 versus the 18U Redbirds

      The Redbirds jumped to quick 2 run lead in the top of first when player #4 lined a single up the middle, driving in 2 runners who had reached base on errors. The Shamrocks came right back in the bottom of the 1st on a double by Lauren Pollock to deep center field, driving in Leigh Murray who had been walked. Annie Del'Aria reached on an infield error. Kat Peck reached on an infield hit, and Pollock scored. Alexis Thurlow lined a single to center field, but a quick throw to the plate got Annie out at home. Rachel Smith reached on an infield error, loading the bases with two outs. Another error on an infield hit by Cindy Soto drove in Kat Peck, making the score at the end of the 1st inning 3-2 in favor of the Shamrocks.

      The Redbirds threatened in the top of the third on a deep drive double to left field by Pam Brock, and a line single to right field by player #32. With runners at the corners, the next batter hit to the shortstop who threw to first for the second out, followed by a double play second out when the 3rd base runner was put out in a rundown. The Shamrocks also threatened in the third with runners at the corners, but failed to score.

      The Redbirds roared back in the top of the 4th on a booming leadoff triple to deep center field. With one out, the Shamrocks made a nifty double play on a fly ball to deep left field and a beautiful throw to put the runner out at the plate. The Shamrocks came right back in the bottom of the 4th on a line shot to left center field by Kathleen Jones for a base hit. Pollock bunted her to 2nd base. Del'Aria ripped a double to deep center field, scoring Jones. Peck stoked a double to deep center field, putting runners at 2nd and 3rd. Smith lined a shot to center field, driving in a run. The score at the end of four innings was Shamrocks 5, Redbirds 2.

      The Redbirds came up with another run in the top of the 5th on a single to center field by player #51 and a double down the left field line by player #4. The Shamrocks got runners to 1st and 2nd on base hits by Jones and Pollock, but failed to score.

Sunday, May 31

Game 1 of single elimination vs the Redbirds (home)

      The Shamrocks earned one run in the top of the 1st on a single by Lauren Pollock down the left field line, driving in Leigh Murray who reached base on a walk. The Redbirds came right back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st, on an infield hit which drove in runners on 2nd and 3rd .

      The Redbirds scored three more runs in the bottom of the 3rd . A deep shot double to left field by player #51 drove in the runner who had walked. Players #4 and #32 lined respective single and double, driving in one run on each shot, making the score Redbirds 5, Shamrocks 1 at the end of three innings.

      The Shamrocks picked up two more runs in the top of the 4th. Annie Del�Aria line a single to the left side and reached 2nd on an overthrow, and 3rd on a wild pitch to the next batter. Alexis Thurlow reached 1st on an overthrow which let in one run. Kelley Pastic reached 1st on an infield error. Leigh Murray reached 1st on another infield error which allowed another run to score.

      In the bottom of the 4th the Redbirds picked up two more runs. Player #33 reached 1st on a pop to center field and scored on two pass balls to the next two batters. Player #14 walked and also scored on the succession of pass balls.

      With the Redbirds leading 7-3, the Shamrocks rallied for 3 runs in the top of the 7th. Leigh Murray lined a triple to center field, and Jenn Wynn reached 1st on an infield single. Loren Pollock tagged a deep fly ball triple to right field, driving in 2 runs. Annie Del�Aria lined a single to center field, driving in another run. But the rally fell short as the Redbirds took the game 7-6, eliminating the Shamrocks from the competition. Back to Top



SHAMROCKS GO DOWN TO 18U RICHMOND DIAMONDS AT BAY COUNTRY MOOSE TOURNAMENT

June 6, 1998

Game 1 vs. Harrisburg Krunch (visitors)

      The Shamrocks picked up 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Jenn Wynn lined a grounder up the middle for a base hit, MK walked, and Lauren hit a base hit fly to right field, loading the bases. Annie hit an infield fly, bringing in one run. Alexis lined a single to left field, scoring two more runs.

      The Shamrocks brought in one run in both the second and the third innings. Autumn Wacker walked, and Kelley Pastic slapped to the right side, and moved to 3rd base on an infield error, which scored Wacker. In the 3rd inning, Kathleen Jones boomed a triple to left field, and scored on an outfield fly by Wacker.

      In the 4th inning, Jenn Wynn lined a base hit up the middle, and scored on MK's double to the left side. MK scored on Lauren Pollock's sacrifice liner to left field.

      The Shamrocks scored once more in the 6th inning, making the final score Shamrocks 8, Krunch 0.

Game 2 vs. 18U Riviera Beach Spirit

      The Shamrocks scored first in the bottom of the 3rd. Wynn walked, followed by MK's line single to the left side. Annie Del'Aria double in two runs. The Spirit got one back in the top of the 4th, on a pop fly to center field, which scored a runner who reached base on an outfield error. Lauren Pollock blasted a one run homer in the bottom of the 5th, making the score 3-1 Shamrocks.

      The 6th inning was not a good one for the Shamrocks. Spirit player #16 stroked a solo home run, making the score 3-2. The next two batters hit left field singles, who both scored in plays at the plate. A Shamrocks rally in the 7th fell short. Del'Aria reached on a left field double, and Kat Peck lined a single to the right side. Del'Aria was tagged out on the play at home.

      The 18U Riviera Beach Spirit won, 4-3.

Game 3 vs. the Screaming Eagles (home)

      The Shamrocks scored 2 in the first inning. MK walked and Pollock singled to center field. Both runners scored on an infield error on Del'Aria's grounder to the left side. An Eagles' rally in the bottom of the 1st was foiled by a double play.

      The Shamrocks put a run across in the 2nd inning on a right side single by Wacker, a bunt hit by Pastic, and an infield bouncer by Wynn. Wacker scored, and Pastic was tagged out at the play at the plate. MK made a tremendous play on a blast to right field, holding the batter to a base hit and blocking the score on the next two sacrifice fly balls to the outfield.

      A Shamrock rally in the 3rd inning brought in 8 runs. Del'Aria tripled to center field, driving in MK and Pollock who both reached on doubles. Del'Aria scored on a pass ball. Kathleen Jones bounced a single to center field and scored on infield plays on the next two batters. Amy Scott was hit by a pitch, and Leigh Murray looped a single to left field. Jenn Wynn drove in a run on an infield hit to the left side. MK walked. Pollock drove in 3 runs on a fly ball to the right side.

      The game ended after four innings. Shamrocks 11, Eagles 0.

Game 4 vs. Bay Country Moose

      The Shamrocks scored once in each of the first two innings. In the 1st inning, Murray lined a double to center field, and later scored on a pass ball. In the 2nd inning, Alexis Thurlow, who walked, scored on a pass ball. Wynn blasted a long ball to center field but was out on a nice play by the Moose center fielder. In the bottom of the second inning Moose player #8 lined a single to left on a change up, but was picked off at 1st on a nice defensive play.

      The Shamrocks scored 2 runs in the top of 3rd. MK, who walked, later scored on a pass ball. Thurlow singled in Del'Aria, who was on base because of being hit by a pitch.

      A Shamrock rally in the top of 4th closed the deal. Murray and Wynn both reached on singles, and MK drove in Murray on a single down the left field line. Wynn scored on a pass ball. Pollock hit a bouncer to 1st, scoring MK on a play at the plate. Peck lined a single to the left side, and Thurlow walked, loading up the bases. Pollock crossed the plate on the walk to Jones, and Peck scored on a walk to Wacker. Murray singled up the middle, driving in Thurlow. Jones crossed scored on a pass ball to Wynn, who later reached base on an infield hit, again loading the bases. Amy Scott walked, forcing in another run.

      The final score was Shamrocks 15, Moose 0.

Sunday, June 7 Single Elimination

Game 1 vs. Midshore (visitors)

      The Shamrocks scored first in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Del'Aria singled to the left side, Peck made a sacrifice bunt, and a line drive single to the left side scored Del'Aria. Pastic bounced an infield hit to the left side, scoring Jones.

      The Shamrocks rallied for 8 runs in the third inning. Jenn Wynn lined a single to the right side, and MK lined a double down the 3rd base line. Pollock reached on an infield error, which also brought in Jenn to score. Del'Aria bounced a double to the left side, driving in MK. The next two batters--Peck and Thurlow--both walked, loading the bases and bringing in a run. Pastic lined up the middle bringing in two runs. Murray lined a single to the right side, bringing in another run. Wynn shot an RBI single to the left side. Scott walked, followed by an RBI single to the left side by Pollock.

      Each side scored one run each in the 4th inning. For the Midshore, #16 cracked a long double to left field, moved to 3rd base on an infield error, and scored on an infield put-out. The Shamrocks came back in the bottom of the 4th on a line drive double to left field by Jones, which drove in Thurlow who had walked.

      The final score was Shamrocks 11, Midshore 1.

Game 2 vs. 18U Richmond Diamonds

      The Diamonds scored first in the top of the 6th inning, on a triple to right field by #12, which drove in #21 who reached earlier on a bouncer up the middle. The Shamrocks threatened, but failed to score, in the bottom of the 6th inning.

      The Diamonds scored again the top of the 7th, on a line drive base hit by #21, which drove in #3 who had reached base on a bunt. The Shamrocks tied the score in the bottom of the 7th. Pastic reached on an infield hit to the left side. Murray followed with a line drive single to center field. The runners moved to 3rd and 2nd on an infield out by Wynn. An infield error on the next play let in two runs and put MK on 1st. MK was put out in a play at the plate while trying to score on Pollock's line drive to the left side. With the score tied at 2-2, the game continued using international tie breaker rules.

      Each team picked up one run in the 8th inning. The Diamonds brought their runner to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt, and drove her in on a line drive single to left field by #13. The Shamrocks did the same on the sacrifice bunt by Peck and the single by Thurlow.

      The Diamonds capitalized on 3 errors in the top of the 9th. With runners at the corners and one run already across the plate, 2 back to back singles brought in 2 more runs, making the score 5-2. The Shamrocks 9th inning fizzled, leaving them scoreless for the inning and on the short end of a very exciting 5-2 final score. Back to Top



Shamrocks Take First Place at Marylanders Invitational Tournament June 13 & 14, 1998

Saturday, June 13

Game 1 vs. Clearwater, Florida, Lady Bombers (home)

      The Shamrocks hit the ground scoring. Leigh Murray reached on an infield error and stole second. Jenn Wynn walked, and MK sacrifice bunted the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Lauren Pollock lined a single to left field, driving in Murray, and then stole 2nd base. Kat Peck boomed a triple to left field, driving in Wynn and Pollock. The Lady Bombers came right back in the bottom of the 1st with one run. Number 00 stole 1st on a dropped 3rd strike, then stole 2nd, and moved to 3rd on a pass ball. After #2 walked, a double steal attempt led to a run-down on the lead runner, in which an error let the run cross the plate. The score after one full inning was Shamrocks 3-Lady Bombers 1.

      The Bombers scored again in the 3rd inning. Reaching base on a single up the middle, #21 moved to 2nd on a pass ball and to 3rd on an infield error on a pickoff attempt. She later scored on a base hit by #7, making the score 3-2, Shamrocks.

      The Bombers took the lead in the bottom of the 4th on a 2 run single by #24 up the middle, bringing in #9 who stole 1st on the dropped 3rd strike and #0 who had walked.

      Trailing 5-4, the Shamrocks rallied in the top of the 5th. Pastic bunted safely, and was driven home by Murray's 2 run homer. The Bombers threatened again in the bottom of the 5th, with runners at 2nd and 3rd, but the Shamrock defense held. The Shamrocks took a very exciting game well-played by both teams, winning 5-4.

Game 2 vs. Cartaret (New Jersey) All Stars (home)

      The Shamrocks jumped to a 3 run lead before the game was called because of rain after the first inning. Leigh Murray walked, and moved to 2nd on Jenn Wynn's sac bunt. Lauren Pollock brought her in on a line single to left field. Pollock came in on Dell'Aria's double down the left field line.. Rachael Smith brought in Dell'Aria with a base hit, but was tagged out trying to take 2nd. The game was not re-scheduled.

Sunday, June 14

Game 1 vs. Vienna Stars (home)

      The action began in the second inning when the Stars threatened. Player #12 came up with a double, and #16 walked. The Shamrocks ended the threat with a nice 2-3 pickoff.

      The Shamrocks rallied in the top of the 3rd for 4 runs. MK bunted safely, Pollock walked, and they moved to 2nd and 3rd on the double steal. Dell'Aria doubled them in. Peck walked. Thurlow popped a single to shallow left field, driving in Dell'Aria, followed by Jones who singled in Peck.

      The Stars rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Player #7 lined a base hit up the middle, driving in runners who had reached base on a walk and HBP. But the rally fell short as the Shamrocks won on a score of 4-2.

Game 2 vs. New Jersey Outlaws (visitors)

      The Outlaws held off a Shamrock rally in the bottom of the 1st inning, and Thurlow returned the favor in the top of the 2nd with a great unassisted out at 1st base.

      The Shamrocks threatened again in the bottom of the 2nd on base hits by Smith and Wacker and a walk to Wynn, but stranded all three runners. The Outlaws left 2 on base in the top of the 3rd.

      The Shamrocks put together a 3 run rally in the bottom of the third. Pollock reached on an infield error, and Dell'Aria shot a triple down the left field line, scoring Pollock. Peck walked. Thurlow drove in Dell'Aria on a sacrifice grounder to the right side. Wacker scored Peck on a base hit to the right side.

      The Outlaws threatened in the top of the 4th, but stranded 3 runners. The Shamrocks fared better, getting another run in the bottom of the 4th. Wynn lined a single to center field, and Pollock and Dell'Aria both got infield hits, loading the bases. Peck brought in a run with a base hit to shallow left field. The Outlaws defense got the final 2 outs, stranding 3 Shamrocks on base.

      Both sides threatened once more--the Outlaws in the top of the 5th and the Shamrocks in the bottom of the 6th, but neither side scored again. The final score was Shamrocks 4-Outlaws 0.

Game 3 vs. 16U Redbirds (visitors)

      The Shamrocks got one run across in the bottom of the 1st on a series of errors. Pastic reached base on an error playing her bunt. Pollock moved her to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt. Pastic stole 3rd on a pass ball and came home on a throwing error at 3rd base.

      In the bottom of the 3rd, Jones walked, Thurlow moved her to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt, and Murray drove her across the plate on a base hit to center field. She was tagged out trying for 2.

      Both the Shamrocks and the Redbirds left runners on and threatened the remainder of the game, but the scoring had ended, with the final score Shamrocks 2-Redbirds 0.

Game 4 vs. Firebirds (visitors)

      The Shamrocks exploded in the bottom of the 1st for 4 runs. Murray led off with in infield single, but was forced at 2nd base on an infield fielder's choice by Pastic. Pollock ripped a triple to deep center field, driving in Pastic. Dell'Aria and Wynn walked, and with the bases full Smith shot a triple to left field, bringing in 3 more runs.

      The Firebirds came right back with a threat in the top of 2nd. Player #9 reached on HBP. Player #15 ripped a base hit to center field, and moved on to 2nd base on the unsuccessful attempt to tag the lead runner at 3rd. With 2 outs, however, the batter was caught looking at very strong pitching, and the threat fizzled. The Shamrocks scored again in the 2nd when Scott (walk) scored on an infield put-out hit by Pastic.

      The play was quiet until the bottom of the 5th. Pastic led off with a safe bunt, and she moved to 2nd on Pollock's fly out to center field. Pastic headed to 3rd on Dell'Aria's infield grounder. After the put out at 1st, an infield error on the throw to 3rd gave Pastic time to cross the plate, making the score Shamrocks 6-Firebirds 0.

      The Shamrocks scored once more in the bottom of the 6th, on back to back hits. Soto's's base hit was followed by Smith's double to left field, driving in Soto's. That ended the scoring at Shamrocks 7-Firebirds 0. Back to Top



Shamrocks Win Washington DC ASA 16U Metro Tournament

Saturday, June 20

Game 1 vs. Firebirds (home)

      The Shamrocks' bats were a'blazing in the first game of bracket play! The action began in the top of the 2nd. A walk to MK, a center field double by Smith, and an infield hit my Thurlow drove in the first run. An infield error on Wacker's hit drove in 2 more runs. Murray singled in a run. Another error on the play to force Pastic at 1st let in another run. Wynn doubled down the left field line, driving in 2 runs. MK's 6-3 put out drove in another run. Smith lined a single to center field, driving in run number 8.

      The Shamrock rallied again in the top of the 3rd. Pollock boomed a triple to left field, driving in Wacker (reached on an error) and Murray (walk). Game 2 vs. Maryland Sting (home)

      The Shamrocks rallied in the top of the 1st for 3 runs. Pastic lined a base hit up the middle, Pollock popped a base hit to short center field, and both were driven in by Dell'Aria's deep triple to left field. Wynn singled up the middle to drive in Dell'Aria.

      The Shamrocks rallied again in the 2nd inning. Wacker ripped a base hit up the middle, and Murray and Pastic walked. Pollock doubled down the left field line, driving in Wacker and Murray. Wynn walked, filling the bases. Pastic scored on a caught fly ball hit by Smith.

      The Shamrock rally continued in the 3rd inning. The bases were full on walks to Thurlow and Wacker, and a single to the right side by Murray. Pastic singled in a run with a hit to the left side, and Pollock drove in another run with a deep single to center field. Murray crossed the plate on Dell'Aria's sacrifice fly to left field. Pastic and Pollock then scored on Smith's single to center field.

      The Shamrocks scored 2 more runs in the 4th inning on Dell'Aria's triple down the 3rd base line, driving in Pastic and Pollock who had been walked.

      The Sting threatened in the 4th inning. With runners at 2nd and 3rd, the inning ended with a put-out at the plate. Final score was Shamrocks 13-Sting 0.

Game 3 vs. Baseliners (home)

      The Shamrocks scored 4 times in the 1st inning. Murray walked, moved to 2nd on a sacrifice slap, and scored on an infield hit by Dell'Aria. Wynn lined a base hit to the right side. MK then singled up the middle, scoring Dell'Aria. Thurlow blasted a double down the right field line, driving in Wynn and MK.

      Both sides scored one run in the 2nd inning. The Shamrocks' run came on a walk to Jones, followed by sacrifice bunts by Murray and Pastic. The Baseliners loaded the bases on a base hit by #14, a bunt single by #17, and a walk to #11. One run scored on a base hit by #20 to center field. Murray made a great throw-back to hold the scoring to 1 run. The Shamrocks defense held the bases full without further score. The score after 2 full innings was Shamrocks 5-Baseliners 1.

      The 3rd inning was a big one for the Shamrocks. Wynn and MK led off with walks, and an infield error on a bunt by Thurlow loaded the bases with no outs. Wacker namesaked an infield single, driving in Wynn. MK scored on Jones's pop fly out to center field. Pastic's double drove in Thurlow. Smith followed with a double that drove in Wacker and Pastic. Dell'Aria popped a single to shallow center field, driving in Smith. Wynn singled to the left side, putting runners at the corners. MK reached on an infield error, on which Dell'Aria scored. With 7 more runs crossing the plate, the score after 2 � innings was Shamrocks 12- Baseliners 1.

      The Shamrocks put 2 more runs across the plate in the 4th. Wacker blasted a line drive single up the middle, and scored on Jones's left field double to short left field. Pastic popped a base hit to shallow center field, driving in Jones. The threat was ended by a double play.

      The Shamrocks put 4 more runs on the scoreboard in the top of the 5th inning. Wynn boomed a double to left field on a change-up. Scott was HBP. Wacker lined a single to left field, loading the bases. Wynn crossed the plate on the walk to Jones. Murray drove in Scott on an infield out. Wacker stole home on a pass ball. Pastic drove in Jones on a base hit to the left side.

Sunday, June 21 Single Eliminations

Game 1 vs. Redbirds (visitors)

      The Redbirds scored first in the top of the 3rd inning. Lead off #13 walked, and moved to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt. Batter #21 reached on an infield hit. Batter #6 lined a deep single to center field scoring 2 runs, but was tagged out returning to 1st base after trying to stretch the hit to a double. After 3 innings the Redbirds led by a score of 2-0.

      The Shamrocks threatened in the bottom of the 4th inning. Dell'Aria tripled right center field, and an infield error got Wynn to 1st. With runners at the corners and no outs, Smith laid down a bunt, but Dell'Aria was tagged at home trying to score.

      The Shamrocks rallied in the bottom of the 5th for 4 runs. Thurlow singled to left field, and moved to 2nd on Murray's sacrifice bunt. Pastic ripped a single to the right side, scoring Thurlow. Dell'Aria was HBP. With 2 runners on base, Wynn hit to shallow center field, scoring 2 runs and getting on base. Smith singled to center field. Peck singled to center field, scoring Wynn.

      The final score after 6 � exciting innings was Shamrocks 4- Redbirds 2.

Game 2 vs. Stars (home)

      The Shamrocks scored first in the top of the 2nd inning. Dell'Aria lined an infield base hit to the left side, MK walked, and Thurlow singled to right field, driving in Dell'Aria. On the same play, an infield error at the plate put MK across the plate and moved Dell'Aria to 2nd base.

      The Shamrocks put another run on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning. Pollock shot a single up the middle, Wynn walked, and Smith drove in Pollock on a base hit to center field.

      The Stars scored in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Batter #8 walked, #12 got an infield hit, putting runners at the corners. Batter #4 bunted, and in this play the lead runner was tagged out at home. But the action continued, as #4 and #12 played a double steal. The lead runner was safe on the tag at the plate, and the trailing runner was safe at 2nd. At the end of 3 innings the score was Shamrocks 3-Stars 1.

      Both teams added runs in the 4th inning. In the top of the 4th, Thurlow started off with a line drive single to left field. Murray walked, and Pastic lined a base hit down the left field line scoring Thurlow. Pollock hit a fly ball to deep left field, but scored Murray on the tag-up. Pastic crossed the plate on a pass ball. In the bottom of the 4th, Stars #10 lined a single up the middle, followed by #14 who hit safely to the left side. Batter #16 lined a single to center field, driving in a run. After 4 full innings, Shamrocks 6-Stars 2.

      The Shamrocks added 2 more in the 6th. Murray popped a base hit to short left field. Pollock tripled to deep center field, scoring Murray. Dell'Aria boomed a double to deep center field, scoring Pollock and moving to 3rd on an outfield error.

      The Stars roared back with a 7th inning rally. Batter #1 popped a single to center field, #8 lined a grounder to the left side, and #12 bunted safely, loading the bases. Batter #4 came in on an ump call on an illegal pitch, and #4 walked. Batter #7 then sacrificed in another run before the inning, and the game for the Metro DC championship, ended. Game 1 vs. Jersey Storm (home)

      The Shamrocks rocketed to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Leigh Murray started off with a big rip triple to center field. Kelley Pastic walked. An infield error in the play on Lauren Pollock's hit let in Murray and left Pastic on 3rd and Pollock on 2nd. Jenn Wynn singled down the left field line, driving in Murray and Pastic.

      The Storm threatened in the 2nd inning, with runners at the corners, but the Shamrocks defense held.

      The Shamrocks rallied in the top of the 6th for 8 more runs. Kat Peck hit a single grounder to the left side. Kathleen Jones, running for Peck, stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on an error on the play. Alexis Thurlow lined a base hit to center field, driving in Jones. Leigh Murray then bunted safely, putting running at the corners. Kelley Pastic shot a liner to the left side, off the glove of the shortstop, for a base hit and driving in Thurlow. Lauren Pollock walked, loading the bases. Annie Dell'Aria parked a grand slam to deep left center field. The rally continued, with a double by Rachael Smith, a walk to Jenn Wynn, and a base hit by Peck again loading the bases. The Storm defense held this time, and the Shamrocks stranded 3 runners.

      Shamrocks pitcher Kat Peck struck out 6 and walked none. The final score was Shamrocks 11-Storm 0.

Game 2 vs. Delaware Fireballs (home)

      The Shamrocks scored first in the top of the 2nd inning. MK White stole 2nd base after being walked, and scored on a base hit to center field by Alexis Thurlow. They scored once again in the top of the 4th inning on a triple up power alley by Kat Peck and a base hit to center field by MK White. They rallied for 3 more runs in the 5th inning. Lauren Pollock doubled to left center field, followed by a double to center field by Annie Dell'Aria, putting runners at 2nd and 3rd. Rachael Smith drove in Pollock on an infield out. Jenn Wynn lined a single to center field driving in Dell'Aria. Kat Peck tripled to left field, driving in Wynn. The Shamrocks scored twice more in the top of the 7th. Rachael Smith lined a double down power alley, and Jenn Wynn singled to shallow right field. With runners at the corners, Cindy Soto placed a nice hit to short center field, driving in Smith and Wynn.

      Shamrocks pitcher Lauren Pollock struck out 6 and walked 1. The final score was Shamrocks 7-Fireballs 0.

Game 3 vs. South Jersey Diamonds (visitors)

      The Diamonds scored in the top of the 1st inning on an infield hit which drove in an unearned run. The Shamrocks came right back in the bottom of the 1st inning. Leigh Murray reached on an infield error, and moved to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Kelley Pastic. Lauren Pollock ripped a triple to deep right field, driving in Murray. A base hit by Annie Dell'Aria drove in Pollock. Rachael Smith reached on a fielder's choice, and stole 2nd base on a very skilled steal. She was left at 2nd base, however, with the score after one full inning Shamrocks 2-Diamonds 1.

      The Diamonds threatened in the top of the 2nd inning, when a single and 2 walks loaded the bases with 2 outs. Starting pitcher Cindy Soto was relieved by Kat Peck, who got the 3rd out to end the threat.

      The Shamrocks rallied in the bottom of the 2nd inning for 4 runs. With 2 outs, Autumn Wacker lined a base hit to the right side, and Leigh Murray and Kelley Pastic walked. With bases full, Lauren Pollock doubled down the left field line, driving in Wacker, Murray, and Pastic. Annie Dell'Aria singled in Pollock for the 4th run of the rally. The score after 2 full innings was Shamrocks 6-Diamonds 1.

      The Shamrocks scored 4 more runs in the 3rd inning. MK White singled to the left side of the infield, and Alexis Thurlow singled down the right field line, putting runners at the corners. Autumn Wacker scored White on an infield out. Leigh Murray singled down the left field line, driving in Thurlow.

      The Diamonds fought back for a run in the top of the 4th inning. A walk, an infield error, and a single loaded the bases with no outs. The Shamrocks defense held the Diamonds to only one run before retiring the side. The Shamrocks got that run back in the bottom of the 4th on Annie Dell'Aria's triple to deep center field and Rachael Smith's infield hit. That threat continued as Jenn Wynn reached base on an infield hit. A great catch by the Diamonds' center fielder ended the threat.

      The Diamonds threatened big-time in the top of the 6th inning. A base hit and an infield error put runners at the corners. Another infield error brought in a run and kept runners at the corners. An infield single drove in another run and kept runners at the corners. The inning, and the game, ended after a runner was cut down stealing second and an infield out.

      Starting Shamrocks pitcher Cindy Soto pitched 1 2/3 innings, struck out 2, walked 2, and gave up 1 run. Relief pitcher Kat Peck struck out 4 and walked 1. The final score was Shamrocks 9- Diamonds 4.

Sunday, June 28, 1998 Single Elimination

Game 1 vs Fireballs (visitors)

      The Fireballs brought in one run in the top of the 1st inning on an infield hit which later scored on a pass ball. The Shamrocks tied the score in the bottom of the 2nd inning on a single by Rachael Smith and a later single by MK White which drove in Smith.

      The Shamrocks scored 2 in the bottom of the 5th inning. Alexis Thurlow ripped a base hit up the middle and later moved to 2nd base on a wild pitch. MK White laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Thurlow to 3rd base. Autumn Wacker ripped a base hit to right field which drove in Thurlow. Wacker stole home on a pass ball.

      The Shamrocks brought in another run in the bottom of the 6th inning on a base hit to left field by Jenn Wynn which drove in Annie Dell'Aria who had reached base on an infield error.

      Shamrocks pitcher Cindy Soto struck out 8 and walked 3. The final score was Shamrocks 4-Fireballs 1 in a very hard-fought game.

Game 2 vs. South Jersey Outlaws (Black)

      The Shamrocks threatened in the bottom of the 1st inning, but Kelley Pastic was cut down at the plate in a play at home. They came back again in the bottom of the 2nd inning to score 2 runs. Jenn Wynn reached on a base hit to center field and Kat Peck walked. MK White moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd with a sacrifice bunt. Alexis Thurlow ripped a base hit to center field, driving in Wynn and Peck. The Shamrocks picked up another run in the bottom of the 4th inning on a solo home run by MK White.

      The Outlaws threatened in the top of the 5th inning. With a runner at 2nd base, however, the rally was cut short by a super snag by second base woman Kelley Pastic. The Shamrocks threatened in the bottom of the 5th, but the Outlaws defense held and the Shamrocks left runners at 2nd and 3rd. The Outlaws threatened again in the top of the 7th inning after a booming double to center field. But the runner was left stranded.

      Shamrocks pitcher Lauren Pollock struck out 6 and walked none. The final score of this very hard-played game was Shamrocks 3-Outlaws 0.

Game 3 vs Talleyville Travelers (visitors)

      The Shamrocks drove in 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. MK White was hit by a pitch and Kelley Pastic reached on an infield error. Lauren Pollock doubled to deep center field, driving in MK and Pastic. Annie Dell'Aria rapped an infield single, driving in Pollock.

      In the top of the 4th inning the Travelers got a runner to 2nd base on an infield error with 2 outs. A beautiful shoestring catch by Leigh Murray ended the threat, and after a lengthy and noisy protest by the Travelers' coaches and several of their players, play finally resumed.

      The Travelers fought back in the top of the 5th inning for 2 runs. One run scored on a triple to center field which scored a runner who had reached base on an infield hit. The next batter dribbled a hit to first base but was safe on the attempted tag after shouldering the ball out of the fielder's glove on another contested call. Another batter walked, loading the bases. One run came in on a base hit to center field. The score after 5 full innings was Shamrocks 3-Travelers 2.

      The Travelers tied the score in the top of the 6th on a solo home run. The Shamrocks came back for 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Annie Dell'Aria slammed a base hit up the middle, stole 2nd base, and moved to 3rd base on a sacrifice infield hit by Rachael Smith, and moved on to score on an infield error at 3rd base. Jenn Wynn singled up the middle, and was driven home by Kat Peck's triple to center field.

      The Travelers roared right back in the top of the 7th. The lead-off batter bounced an infield hit, and moved to 2nd base and then to 3rd base on the two following infield put-outs. A double to right field scored a run, leaving a runner at 2nd base with the pitcher #12 taking the box. She hit into an infield put-out, putting an end to the rally.

      Shamrocks starting pitcher Kat Peck struck out 3, walked 3, and gave up 2 runs in 3 1/3 innings. Relief pitcher Lauren Pollock struck out 2, walked none and gave up 2 runs. The final score was Shamrocks 5-Travelers 4. Back to Top



ASA Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament July 3-5

      The weather was scorching--in the high 90's and the 100's, but the Shamrocks' bats froze as they finished in the bottom half of the competition.

Game 1 vs. Minnesota Lady Diamonds (visitors)

      This game was a pitching duel. Through the top of the 2nd inning, 3 Diamonds and 3 Shamrocks struck out. The Shamrocks scored first in the bottom of the 2nd inning. With 2 outs, Jenn Wynn, Kat Peck and MK White combined a single, double, and infield single to drive in 1 run. The Diamonds came back in the top of the 4th with a tying run on a base hit, sacrifice bunt, pass ball, and double down the left field line. The Shamrocks picked up one more run in the bottom of the 5th on a base hit by Peck, sacrifice bunt by White, and a pass ball. The final score was Shamrocks 2-Lady Diamonds 1.

      Pitcher Kat Peck struck out 12 and walked none. There were 5 Shamrocks strike-outs.

Game 2 vs. Phoenix Li'l Saints (home)

      The Saints first threat came in the bottom of the 2nd inning, with runners at the corners. While the Shamrocks' defense held this time, it didn't in the bottom of the 5th. The Saints' lead-off batter hit a single to the right side, moved to 2nd on a fielder's choice, and scored on a base hit. The Saints drove in 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th. The lead-off batter reached on an infield single, and moved to 3rd on successive infield outs. A double to deep center field put runners at the corners. A run scored on a single to center field. Another run scored on a successful double steal. The final score was Li'l Saints 3-Shamrocks 0.

      Pitcher Lauren Pollock struck out 1 and walked none. There were 4 Shamrocks strike-outs.

Game 3 vs. Beaverton Silver Bullets (visitors)

      The Bullets scored twice in the top of the 2nd inning. Back-to-back base hits put runners at the corners, and one runner crossed the plate on a botched run-down. Another run scored on a single to center field. The Bullets picked up 2 more runs in the top of the 4th on a base hit to center field, a bunt single, and a two-run double.

      The Shamrocks came back for one run in the bottom of the 4th on an infield error and a double down the left field line by Lauren Pollock. The score at the end of 4 innings was Bullets 4-Shamrocks 1.

      The Bullets drove in a final run in the top of the 5th inning on a hit batter, a single to shallow center field, and a double to right field. That finished the scoring and the Shamrocks' participation in the tournament.

Game 1 of vs. Lady Stealers (visitors)

      The Stealers scored first in the top of the 2nd inning on a base hit, steal, and a pass ball, making the score Stealers 1-Shamrocks 0. They scored 2 more runs in the top of the 5th inning. The Stealers loaded the bases on a lead-off tripls, an infield hit, and an infield error. A base hit to the right side drove in 2 runs. Lauren Pollock came in on relief with one out and runners at the corners. The Shamrocks thwarted a double with back to back tags on the runners as they came into home and 3rd base; very impressive.

      The Shamrocks rallied in the bottom of the 7th, but with 2 outs and bases loaded, the Stealers short stop leaped to rob Jenn Wynn of an extra base hit. The final score was Stealers 3-Shamrocks 0.

      Starting pitcher Kat Peck struck out 4, walked none, and hit 1 batter. Relief pitcher Lauren Pollock struck out 2 and walked none. There was 1 Shamrock strike-out.

Game 2 vs. Flames (home)

      The Shamrocks threatened first in the top of the 3rd inning. Alexis Thurlow hit a single to short left field, and Autumn Wacker moved her to 2nd base on a sacrifice bunt. Jenn Wynn loaded the bases with a base hit to right field. But the rally fizzled and no runs scored.

      The Flames scored first in the bottom of the 4th by combining a base hit to shallow center field, a sacrifice bunt moving the running to 2nd base, and another base hit to center field which drove in the runner at 2nd.

      The Shamrocks came right back in the top of the 5th with 2 runs. A center field base hit by MK White and an infield error fielding Thurlow's bunt but runners at the corners. Wacker laid down a sacrifice bunt driving in White. Wynn followed out with a base hit driving in Thurlow. While Thurlow scored, she was tagged out at 2nd trying for an extra base. The Flames also threatened in the bottom of the 5th, with runners at the corners. But the Shamrocks' defense held and the Flames did not score.

      The Shamrocks scored once more in the top of the 6th. Annie Dell'Aria led off with a base hit to center field. Kat Peck hit down the left field line. MK White bunted for a single which drove in Dell'Aria. The final score was Shamrocks 3-Flames 1.

      The Shamrocks began the scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning. Jenn Wynn led off with a single to the left side. Annie Dell'Aria bunted and reached 1st on another infield error. Dell'Aria scored on a base hit by MK White to right field.

      Cindy Soto took over pitching duties from Kat Peck at the beginning of the 3rd inning. The Baseliners threatened in the top of the 3rd, but the runner who had reached base on a walk was put out at the plate.

      The Shamrocks scored 3 more times in the bottom of the 3rd. Leigh Murray got on by HBP, stole 2nd, and moved to 3rd on a pass ball. Murray scored on Soto's single to shallow center field. After Wacker reached on a walk, the Baseliners put in a relief pitcher. An outfield error on a fly ball by Wynn brought in Soto, and Wacker scored on a fly ball by Pollock. The score after 3 innings was Shamrocks 10-Baseliners 0.

      The Shamrocks scored 2 more times in the bottom of the 4th inning. MK White hit a single to left field, and Leigh Murray bunted safely. With runners at 1st and 2nd, Soto ripped a shot to right field driving in White. Murray scored on a tag up from 3rd on Wynn's fly ball.

Game 4 vs. Haze (home)

      The Shamrocks scored first in the top of the 1st inning. Kelley Pastic reached on an infield error, and scored when Lauren Pollock drove a triple to deep center field. The Shamrocks threatened again in the top of the 2nd. The bases were loaded by a walk to Leigh Murray, a base hit by Autumn Wacker, and a walk to Jenn Wynn. But with 2 outs, Pastic's fly ball to right field was caught. Pastic drove in a run in the top of the 4th on a base hit to the right side, which drove in Soto who had doubled to left field. Wynn, who reached on a base hit, was stranded. The Shamrocks scored once in the top of the 5th inning on an infield single by Alexis Thurlow and a single to center field by Cindy Soto.

      The Haze rallied in the bottom of the 5th inning for 2 runs on 3 base hits. The Shamrocks came back for a final run in the top of the 6th inning on an infield hit by Wynn, a sacrifice bunt by Pastic, and a base hit by Dell'Aria. The final score was Shamrocks 4-Haze 2.

Game 5 vs. Jade (home)

      The Jade threatened in the bottom of the 2nd inning. An infield error, an infield hit, and a walk loaded the bases with one out. The Shamrocks defense held, and the Jade was unable to score.

      The Shamrocks scored once in the top of the 3rd on a base hit by Pastic and a double to center field by Pollock. The threat continued as Dell'Aria walked and Thurlow slammed a base hit to center field. This time, however, the Jade defense held and the inning ended with 3 Shamrocks runners left on base. The score after 3 innings was Shamrocks 1-Jade 0.

      The Shamrocks rallied in the top of the 4th for 2 runs. The bases loaded up on a walk to Soto, an infield hit by Wacker, and a safe bunt by Wynn. A fly out to center field by Pollock brought in Soto on the tag-up, and another run came in on Dell'Aria's single to the left side, making the score Shamrocks 3-Jade 0.

      The Shamrocks threatened again in the top of the 6th inning, when the bases filled up on Wynn's single and walks to Pastic and Pollock. With one out and the bases loaded, the Jade put in a relief pitcher. One run came in on a pass ball, but after that the side was retired.

      The Jade scored once in the bottom of the 7th. After 2 walks and a fielder's choice force at 3rd, the runner at 1st base was picked off. A base hit to the left side put runners at the corners with 2 outs. An infield error brought in a run, before the game ended with the final score Shamrocks 4-Jade 0.

      The Shamrocks scored first in the top of the 2nd. Annie Dell'Aria ripped a triple, and a base hit to the left side by Thurlow drove her in. An error on a bunt by Rachael Smith left runners at 1st and 2nd. MK White sacrifice bunted the runners to 2nd and 3rd, and a pass ball let in another run.

      The Pegasus roared back in the bottom of the 2nd on a 2 run homer to center field. The bases loaded on a base hit to the left side and 2 walks. A run scored on an infield out, and a base hit drove in 2 more runs. The score at the end of 2 innings was Pegasus 5-Shamrocks 2.

      The Shamrocks got one run back in the 3rd inning on a base hit by Pollock and a double by Dell'Aria. They got one other run in the top of the 6th on a single by MK White and a triple by Autumn Wacker. A Shamrocks rally in the top of the 7th failed to score any runs, and the final score was Pegasus 5-Shamrocks 4.

      Pitcher Kat Peck struck out 4 and walked 3. The Shamrocks had 5 strike-outs.
